Toprail Installation Guide

| Toprail is quick and simple to install. Just follow this step-by-step guide. The only permanently fixed component of the Toprail system is the rail itself. It is therefore important that the rail is correctly installed by following these instructions. |

The rail is normally fixed at 2m above finished floor level or in line with a standard door height architrave. This provides a clean and attractive horizontal line. In some cases, however, some customers may require the rail to be fixed at an
alternative height to suit particular circumstances. |

If the rail then exceeds the length of the wall, both the rail and the cover will need to be cut to size. For best results use a portable cut-off saw. |

Internal and external corners should be
mitred, although internal corners can also be achieved with a simple butt joint. Again, mitres should be made with the cut-off saw. |

Use a spirit level to ensure that the rail is horizontal, then mark the pre-drilled holes in the rail section. A full 2.4m length rail has 15 pre-drilled holes. It is important to use all of them to achieve the safe working loads
specified. |

If the rail has been cut, an extra 7.25mm hole should be drilled if the end hole exceeds 50mm from the sawn end. A V-groove is provided to aid drilling in the
correct position. |

It is important that Toprail is installed using the recommended fixing plugs and screws or equal approved with similar specified working loads. Use the correct type of plug and screw size to suit the wall construction. It is equally important to use the correct size and drill bit, and to drill the holes to the depth specified in the
manufacturers instructions. Use every fixing hole. |

When the wall length exceeds 2.4m, lengths of rail are butt jointed. The Toprail fixing tool ref: 30.023 will help with large installations to ensure that the rail sections line up correctly and are tight against one another. It is still necessary to use a spirit level to ensure each section is horizontal. |

End stops are supplied left or right handed. Used where the rail finishes on an open wall, they not only add a professional finish to the rail end but also stop components from sliding off the end. |

End stops must be fitted before the end screw is tightened and the cover is applied. Insert the end-stop tongues between the wall and the back of the rail section and press in tightly. Drill a 3.7mm hole through the rail and end-stop 7mm from the end of the rail, then fit the self-tapping screw provided. |

Hang the cover along the top of the rail. Tap into place with the palm of the hand or use a
section of timber width a hammer. On rail lengths over 2.4m, the joint of the cover section should be
staggered to the joint in the rail. |

Should the cover need to be removed in the future, start at one end of the cover section and insert a wide blade screwdriver into the groove between the top of the cover and rail. Twist to release and work gently along the whole length. Do not attempt to remove the cover by placing the screwdriver between the rail and cover and trying to lever them apart. This will damage the fixing plugs and screw fixings. |

Your Toprail is now ready to use. Simply hang components or slotted uprights onto the rail as desired. The hook design provides a safe and secure fit to the rail. |
